The EPP aims to call for a concrete road map for the Western Balkans, and party sources explain that they "understand the frustration" in the region.

The discontent could lead to postponing the summit between the EU and the Western Balkans scheduled ahead of the European Council. However, Weber does not blame the impasse over Albania and North Macedonia solely on the Bulgarian veto.
